The
Unknown

The Unknown” section contains works by Günther Domenig that stand at the beginning of his career as an architect, which are primarily in the area of private residential construction or of smaller dimensions, yet already challenge conventions in architecture through their gesture and statement. This is also where biographical information can be found, as the background for Domenig’s understanding of architecture.

GÜNTHER DOMENIG/ EILFRIED HUTH This unrealized housing project illustrates how Domenig and Huth understood architecture as an organism that not only occupies a landscape but literally develops from it. While the street side appears restrained, the house develops its full impact towards the garden s…

  • Portal Neumüller, Klagenfurt, 1997

GÜNTHER DOMENIG © Photo: Gerhard Maurer, 2022 Günther Domenig designed and realized a portal as a studio entrance in a side project for the Landestheater extension in Klagenfurt. Set in an unadorned Gründerzeit façade, the architect positioned a wooden double-wing door that is protected on the outside by a metal surface. Interrupted concrete el…
