Haus Holzer, Klagenfurt, 1959

HAUS HOLZER, KLAGENFURT, 1959

GÜNTHER DOMENIG

In one of his earliest projects, the architect was entirely committed to the zeitgeist of the 1960s and designed a single-family home with an understated façade – only does a second glance reveal that this could be a Günther Domenig building. The curved end of the house towards the flat roof hints at an idea that would become characteristic of later buildings: breaking a convention out of convention. There is still only an inkling of Domenig’s later radicalism in the Holzer house.
