About Drawing

The medium of drawing plays a key role in Günther Domenig’s work. It does not just serve as a tool for finding and developing an architectural form –it is instead an independent means of expression committed to the medium itself. In this sense, drawing is on an equal level with Domenig’s architectural forms; in many cases they complement each other, but in other cases they are far removed from one another. The drawing, to put it simply, does not need architecture. The hand – a recurring element in Domenig’s work (e.g. in the Z‑Sparkasse and the Steinhaus jetty) – is an essential element in the creation of a drawing.
