Günther Domenig himself described the conversion of Schloss Neuhaus in Carinthia as a form of exercise in “breakthrough”. Here the architect makes a playful, head-on attempt to insert a second structure into an existing building – a 15th-century Renaissance complex – merging it into the historical substance and only allowing it to have an external effect in certain places. Another part of the work consists in producing a clear order in the building through minimal interventions.
A form of architectural interaction is established here that is to appear again later in the Heft and then even more powerfully in Nuremberg.
