Academy of Fine Arts Münster, 1995–2000

The original design for the University of Fine Arts Münster was based on a distinctive sculptural form that envisaged a stake at the center of a con- centrically organized complex. For reasons of cost and due to resistance from the clients, the project had to be fundamentally revised and re-dimensioned. A polygonal structure housing the lecture hall became the most striking element. The new structure responds to and incorporates a cavalry barracks built at the beginning of the 20th century. However, despite its function as an arts university, its style is sober, industrial, and restrained.
